The aim of the course in technical writing and communication is to provide you with:
Theoretical and practical genre analysis competences with special emphasis on typical move-structure patterns in technical texts
Theoretical and practical technical writing and translation competences with special emphasis on selected fields of science and technology.
Theoretical and practical information retrieval and storage competences with special emphasis on the design and maintenance of terminology databases.

Indhold
You will be studying genre analysis to be able to identify and use typical move-structure patterns in a number of text type genres within the field of science and technology.
You will also be studying some of the linguistic characteristics typical of the field of science and technology, and you will be putting theory into practice by writing or translating typical genres such as technical manuals, user guides, technical brochures, data sheets, product descriptions, notices (dangers, warnings, and cautions), product releases, and technical instructions.
You will also be studying language, style and practical writing tools, including considerations and rules on how to write and use tables, graphs, charts, graphics, headings, lists, abbreviations, punctuation, etc.

Antal undervisningstimer : 30 lessons (6 X 5 lessons)

Forudsætninger: A BA degree with English or equivalent qualifications.

Udprøvning
Satisfactory evaluation of two out of three written assignments, each of approx. 1 standard page.
Satisfactory evaluation of student activity.
Satisfactory evaluation of oral presentations and workshops.

Henrik Køhler Simonsen forsker i virksomhedsleksikograf og underviser i web communication, technical writing and communication, corporate language policy, sprogteknologi og IT og har stor erfaring med anvendelse af IT og sprogteknologi i undervisning, forskning og praksis. Henrik Køhler Simonsen er desuden studieleder for Efter- og Videreuddannelse på Fakultetet for Sprog, Kultur og Kommunikation på CBS.
