The Annual Translation Workshop is always well attended and offers an enjoyable and valuable learning opportunity for translators of all experience levels. After a short welcome and introduction, participants split into language groups to work together translating the set texts, discussing their decisions and learning from the skills and experience of other translators. This year, the texts will be on the theme of ‘Connectivity’. Pertinent issues arising from the texts will be debated within the groups before providing brief feedback on lessons learned from the day in a final plenary discussion. Networking and socialising opportunities, both planned and spontaneous, arise throughout the day and the weekend.

As ever, we try to add something new and this year we have added an element of ‘Meet the Client’. John Evans, Language Officer from the Directorate General for Translation at the European Commission will join us to give a talk on the work of the DGT and working for them. He will also provide EU-sourced texts for one of the sessions. And there’s more: this year we have taken on board feedback from last year and will provide the first text a week before the workshop to give attendees time to study the text and prepare for the first workshop session.

The overarching theme is ‘Connectivity’ and the texts themselves will range in subject from tourism and business, through scientific and medical, technical and popular press materials, to light-hearted articles and cartoons. Participants are free to change from one language group to another during the course of the day.

The fee for the Translation Workshop (excluding evening dinners) is £119 for ITI members and £159 for non-members inclusive of VAT. Handouts, lunch and refreshments will be provided.
